Alleged serial robber Marvin Blackman and his accused accomplice Steve Singh were today charged with attempting to break into a business place. The men, who had both been previously charged with robberies, were today released on $100,000 bail each.
Blackman, 28, a fish cleaner of Beterverwating, East Coast Demerara, and Singh, 27, a fisherman of Lot 9 Riverview, Ruimveldt, both appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The men denied the charge which stated that between July 29 and July 30 at Regent Road, Bourda, Georgetown, they attempted to commit a felony by attempting to break into the business place of Harrylall Narine.
Blackman was represented by attorney-at-law George Thomas who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail. Meanwhile, Singh was unrepresented.
Police Prosecutor Traceyann Gittens did not object to bail being granted to the defendants but asked that conditions be attached, citing that both men are known to the court.
Hence, they were released on $100,000 bail each. The condition of the bail is that Singh must report to the Ruimveldt Police Station while Blackman must report to the Sparendaam Police Station until the hearing and determination of the trial.
Blackman, who is no stranger to the courts around Georgetown, has been charged with a series of armed robberies and the illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Singh was charged in 2017 for burglarising two prominent business entities located at Eccles, East Bank Demerara. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that between May 4 and May 6, 2017, he broke and entered Southland Distributors Limited, at Industrial Site, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, and stole $20M in cash and a Dell laptop valued at $146,000. He was later sentenced for the offence by Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
