A Presidential guard died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) this morning, more than a month after he was found unconscious on the roadway at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.
Dead is 32-year-old Police Constable Winston Cooper of Lot 761 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown. The policeman was nursing injuries he sustained to the head when he passed away at the hospital early this morning.
Cooper was found around 05:30 hrs on the morning of July 1, last, opposite the National Gymnasium by first responders of the Guyana Fire Service. He was taken to GPHC where he remained until he succumbed.
Investigators did not get a chance to question the policeman and there is no eyewitness to relate what happened to him.
After learning of his death, President David Granger this morning visited the deceased’s family and comforted his mother, Loraine Peters. The President has called for a thorough investigation to be done and the person(s) who injured the cop to be brought to justice.
