A carpenter whom the court heard was an accomplice to the removal of some items from his neighbour’s home was on Wednesday remanded to prison on a burglary charge.
Fifty-seven-year-old Daniel Gulliford of South Cummingsburg appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Culliford pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that between August 15 and August 16 at 335 Cummings Street, South Cummingsburg, he broke and entered the home of Revon Turman and stole a number of items valued at $377,000.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that during the period mentioned in the charge, the defendant broke into the victim’s home and removed items.
The court heard the matter was then reported and, following an investigation, Gulliford was arrested. The prosecutor said that it was while in custody that Gulliford admitted to assisting someone in removing the items. Hence, he was charged.
Gulliford, in addressing the court, said that since the incident he has moved from the area and currently has no place of abode and it was on this ground that Prosecutor Mansfield objected to bail being granted to the defendant.
The Chief Magistrate remanded Gulliford to prison until August 28.
