Days after ranks from the Major Crimes Investigation and Tactical Service Units carried out a joint operation in Linden, four youths were today slapped with several charges.
Adrian Webster called ‘Dutchin’, 20, of 26 Canvas City Wismar Linden and Uriel Lewis, 28, of 464 South Amelia’s Ward Linden were both slapped with possession of narcotics charge.
While Lennox Eswick called ‘Matthew’, 23, of 640 South Amelia’s Ward Linden and Rodwell Fraser, 20, of 227 South Amelia’s Ward Linden were both charged with acquiring military stores.
The first charge stated that on September 12, at Canvas City, Wismar Linden, Webster had in his possession two grams of narcotics.
The second charged stated that on September 12, at South Amelia’s Ward Linden, Lewis had in his possession three grams of narcotics.
It was further alleged that on September 12, at South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Fraser acquired a military shirt, the property of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The last charge stated that on the same day and at the same location, Eswick acquired a military shirt, property of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The unrepresented men all appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris stated that on the day in question, ranks acting on information made contact with the defendants and requested to carry out a search on them.
The court heard that several searches were carried out and a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotics were found in their pants pocket.
Further, a search was carried out and two camouflage shirt property of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were found in their possession.
The men were all arrested and taken into custody, hence the charge.
Webster and Lewis both pleaded guilty to the possession of the narcotics charge and were each fined $10,000 and $12,000 respectively. They were also ordered to perform six weeks of community service at the Wismar Police Station and ordered to undergo counseling.
Fraser and Eswick both denied the allegation against them and were released on $20,000 and $5,000 bail respectively.
They are expected to make their next court appearance on September 25 at the Linden Magistrate’s Courts.
It appears as if police have dismantled what they believe were two gangs operating out of Linden.
It was reported that police seized a number of items during the six-hour operation.
Police sources have indicated that the operation is a direct result and spin-off of the ongoing gang wars between the ‘Mob Family’ and a gang being headed by an ex-policeman, who is wanted for the attempted murder of two women.
The members of these gangs are reportedly battling for turf rights.
