A 32-year-old miner, who the court heard admitted in a statement to stabbing his drinking partner about the body, was today charged with murder.
Mcnee Edwards of Warmadong Village was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on September 15, at Warmadong Village, Upper Mazaruni, he murdered Dorian Brown.
An unrepresented Edwards appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that on the day in question, Edwards and Brown were at a shop consuming alcohol.
The court heard that the men began to argue and Edwards pulled out a knife from the waist of his pants and stabbed Brown to his right forearm.
The injured man was then rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, and Edwards was arrested.
The prosecutor told the court that while in custody, Edwards admitted in a caution statement that he stabbed Brown during the argument.
The magistrate, after listening to the prosecutor’s facts, remanded Edwards to prison until December 16 when he is expected to make his next court appearance in the Kamarang Magistrate’s Courts.
