The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) rank, who in a viral video is being accused of planting an illegal substance in a passenger’s bag at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Tuesday night, has only been employed with the agency for six months.
This is according to the Head of CANU, Leslie Ramlall, in an interview with Guyana Standard this morning. He said that the rank is presently at the agency’s headquarters and is being interrogated.
Ramlall indicated that the subject in question has denied planting any illegal substance in the female passenger’s bag. He identified a police constable as the second individual the woman referred to in the video.
The police constable will be questioned by his colleagues within the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
The video began with the woman loudly denying having any illegal substance, identified as marijuana, in her baggage to the CANU rank. He begged that she speak quietly and stopped recording him.
The woman denied and insisted that the rank bring his supervisor but he instead, told her to return to her seat and asked that she does not talk to his supervisor.
The woman posted the video on her social media account and claimed that the rank had what appeared to be “weed” in a small black plastic bag and claimed that he found it in her bag.
However, when she started questioning and videoing him, he panicked and allowed her to continue on her journey.
