A 23-year-old Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBD) man is now dead and several persons are injured following two separate accidents this morning.
In the first accident, three young men, who police say were under the influence of alcohol, were heading home around 01:00 hrs this morning when the driver reportedly lost control of his car and crashed into a fence at De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The driver has been identified as Leroy Cummings. He died at the scene of the accident. The two other occupants were treated at the Leonora Cottage Hospital for minor injuries.
Guyana Standard has been informed that Cummings, while heading home, overtook the vehicle in front of him while approaching a turn and did not see a car was approaching in the opposite direction.
In an attempt to avoid a head on collision, the deceased allegedly swerved and his vehicle toppled several times before crashing into a fence. All three occupants of the car were taken to the hospital where Cummings was officially pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, around 07:00 hrs this morning, several passengers were injured after a route 44 mini bus with registration number BTT 7677 lost control on the Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road and ended up a drain at the side of the road.
The mini bus was heading to Mon Repos, ECD.
It is unclear how the accident happened but several passengers had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for treatment. At least two persons—a male and female were said to be in critical condition.
The Police’s traffic department did not release any information regarding the accident as yet.
