A man, who has been charged for a series of robberies under-arm, was this morning jailed for spitting on a woman and threatening to kill her while in court.
Twenty-five-year-old Carlton Bourne appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
The first charge stated that on October 15, 2019, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts, he unlawfully assaulted Sherryann Persaud.
It was further alleged that on the same day, and at the same location, he made use of threatening language towards Persaud.
Bourne pleaded guilty to both charges.
Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris told the court that Persaud is a victim in one of the robbery matters for which Bourne is on trial before Senior Magistrate Dylon Bess.
The Prosecutor added that on the day in question, the trial was being conducted and the woman was present in court.
However, when the court was called to session Bourne got up and turned to the woman who was standing near to the prisoner’s dock and spit on her. He also threatened to kill her.
He was then quickly escorted out of the courtroom and placed in custody.
The matter was reported and he was charged.
Magistrate Daly, after listening to the facts sentenced Bourne to six months on each of the charges. However, the sentencing will run concurrently so he will only spend six months behind bars.
Last August, Bourne was slapped with four armed robbery charges and discharging a firearm at one of the robbery victims.
He is currently on remand for the offences.
