A Labourer, who is accused of killing a sailor attached to the Transport and Harbours’ Department, was today charged for the offence.
Twenty-eight-year-old Selwyn Rollins also known as “Rastaman” of 76 Ithaca Village, West Bank Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Zameena Ali-Seepaul at the Wales Magistrate’s Courts.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on October 24, 2019, at Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) stelling, he murdered, Shurlon Errol Cutting.
Rollins was remanded to prison until December 30.
According to information, on the day in question, Cutting, 48, of Lot 2529 Layou Street North Ruimveldt, Georgetown was stabbed under the left armpit and died while receiving treatment at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
It was reported that an argument erupted between the two men after the now-deceased asked Rollins to leave the stelling around 18:30 hrs.
Based on information received, following the argument, Cutting armed himself with a piece of wood and reportedly dealt Rollins
several lashes, causing him to retaliate by stabbing the sailor with a pair of scissors.
The sailor instantly collapsed and lost consciousness. Both men were taken to the hospital where Cutting died.
The matter was reported, hence Rollins was charged for the offence.
