A security guard attached to the El Sol Hotel, who allegedly discharged a gun, hitting a woman in her eye and knee, was today charged.
He was released on $100,000 bail by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
Thirty-year-old Anthony Grannum of Charlestown, Georgetown, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He denied the charge which stated that on October 27, 2019, at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, he discharged a 12 gauge shotgun within 100 yards of public space.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris stated that on the day in question, Grannum was on duty at the El Sol hotel which is located at 205 Charlotte Street, Georgetown.
At the time, he was armed with a 12 gauge shotgun along with 12 matching rounds and was seated on the third floor of the building with the firearm pointing downwards.
The court heard that Grannum squeezed the trigger and a round was discharged from the gun. The round hit the ground and same rebounded and hit the woman to her right eye and right knee.
The injured woman fell to the ground and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she remains a patient.
Prosecutor Morris made no objections to bail being granted to the defendant but asked that conditions be attached.
However, another Police Prosecutor, Richard Harris requested that the man be remanded to prison as the victim is still in the hospital.
The prosecutor also highlighted the fact that a gun does not go off on its own; and that at the time Grannum was being callous and should be remanded for his actions.
Magistrate Daly after listening to the facts released Grannum on $100,000 bail.
Conditions of the bail are that he lodges his passport with the court and report to the Alberttown Police Station every Monday until the hearing and determination of the trial.
He was instructed to make his next court appearance on November 29.
