A teenager, who allegedly robbed a Venezuelan of his valuables, was moments ago charged and remanded to prison for the offence.

Eighteen-year-old Jamal Hicks of 153 James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on November 3, 2019, at Carmichael Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of others, he robbed Pedro Nascimento of a phone valued $100,000, a wallet valued $10,000 and $1000 cash.

Hicks, who appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him.

Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Annissa Brummell stated that on the day question, the victim was walking along Carmichael Street when he was approached by the defendant and others.

The court heard the defendant’s friends held on to the victim while he was relieved of the articles mentioned in the charge.

The Venezuelan reported the matter to the police.

The matter was investigated and Hicks was arrested and taken to the station.

At the station, the defendant was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him.

The prosecutor strongly objected to bail being granted to Hicks on the grounds of the serious nature of the allegation and the penalty the charge attracts.

She also highlighted the fact that he was positively identified by the victim and the stolen articles were found in his possession.

Magistrate Faith McGusty, after listening to the facts, remanded the teen to prison until November 27.
