A teenager, who is no stranger to the courts, was moments ago sentenced to one-year imprisonment for snatching a man’s phone.
The ruling was handed down by Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Nineteen-year-old Chris Pollard, of 46 Durban Street, Georgetown, had denied the charge which stated that on September 13, at Camp Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of others, he robbed Sachin Narine of a phone valued $45,000.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris stated that on the day in the question, around 17:30 hrs, the victim was walking on Camp Street talking on his phone.
The court heard the defendant approached the victim and snatched his phone.
Narine then approached the defendant who was standing with two others and asked for his phone but the defendant told him “ Don’t do nothing before we do you something.”
The victim then raised an alarm and two officers, who were in the area, gave chase and arrested him.
He was then taken to the station where he was positively identified as the robbery, hence charged for the offence.
Just recently, Pollard was slapped with five robbery underarm charges and was released on bail.
Last year, Pollard was also hauled before the Courts after he allegedly stole his father’s firearm and 10 matching rounds.
However, the matter against him was dismissed after his father did not proceed with the matter.
