The body of a soldier was fished out of a trench today aback the medical centre at Base Camp Jaguar, New River.
The deceased has been identified as Lance Corporal Dwayne Johnson. His body was recovered around 13:35 hrs today.
According to information received, Johnson, along with eight other ranks, were at the river yesterday afternoon when he went underwater.
The army said that a team from the Special Forces Squadron and Specialist divers from the Coast guard recovered this remains.
Members of the local Amerindian Community also assisted in the search.
A board of inquiry has been convened to determine the circumstances under which the soldier drowned.
