Representatives of the lead private sector groups were unable to deliver remarks at the opening of the second Annual Guyana International Petroleum Business Summit and Exhibition (GIPEX) 2019 being held in Georgetown. This was reportedly due to a miscommunication on the part of the event’s organizing committee.
In a joint statement, the private sector bodies, inclusive of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), said that despite this, they look forward to a successful event.
“Despite the earlier miscommunication, we look forward to a successful event and are supportive of international exhibitions like this,” said President of GCCI, Nicholas Deygoo-Boyer.
Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, Gerry Gouveia, said he would have been honoured to speak at the signature oil and gas conference.
“I would have been honoured to have been able to speak at the event. We look forward to continue playing an active role in the development of our emerging oil and gas sector,” he said.
GIPEX is being held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel and will conclude on Friday, November 22.
The GIPEX website states, “GIPEX 2019 will provide immense opportunities for companies across North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Many well-established companies from the oil & gas sector have already shown their interest and made their commitment to be a part of this year’s event which will be held in Guyana – the most prominent Oil and Gas destination in South America and the Caribbean.”
