The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) will be delivering a presentation at the Guyana International Petroleum Business Summit and Exhibition (GIPEX) tomorrow. This development comes after the two major private sector bodies, the GCCI and the Private Sector Commission (PSC) were unable to deliver remarks at the event’s kick-off yesterday at Kingston, Georgetown.
The two private sector entities issued a joint statement yesterday noting that there was a “miscommunication” issue on the part of the organizers.
Director of the Department of Energy, Dr. Mark Bynoe, speaking with Guyana Standard on the sidelines of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) inking between the University of Guyana and Halliburton, said that the GCCI is expected to make a presentation tomorrow morning. He could not expound on what the miscommunication issue entailed.
“To the best of my knowledge, we are working on that. As far as I know, the GCCI will be presenting tomorrow.”
This publication later met up with GCCI’s Executive Director, Richard Rambarran, who confirmed that the GCCI President, Nicholas Deygoo-Boyer, will indeed be delivering remarks on behalf of the GCCI at 9 am. Rambarran appeared as a panellist at GIPEX this afternoon to talk about “Strategies to ensure economic strength – sustaining the big boom”, where he shared the spotlight with three others including Oil and Gas Specialist at the World Bank, Susana Moreira; the Head of Economics Department at the University of Guyana, Sydney Armstrong; and the Senior Director of Golden Fortunes.
In the joint statement, GCCI’s Head Deygoo-Boyer was quoted as saying, “Despite the earlier miscommunication, we look forward to a successful event and are supportive of international exhibitions like this.”
Meanwhile, the PSC Chairman said, “I would have been honoured to have been able to speak at the event. We look forward to continue playing an active role in the development of our emerging oil and gas sector,”
