A man, whom the court heard stole two grass cutters and a chain saw from a man, then took the man to the persons whom he sold them too, was today charged for the offence.
Rayon Clarke,20 of Rasville, Georgetown, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Clarke denied the charge which stated that between November 19 to November 21 at Caneview Avenue Georgetown, he broke and entered into the storeroom of Troy Benn and stole one chain saw valued $165,000 and two grass cutters valued $220,000, property of Benn.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Devon Timmerman stated that on November 19, the man secured his storeroom and went out.
However, on his return on November 21, he observed the articles mentioned in the charge missing.
The victim reviewed CCTV footage in the area and the defendant was seen entering the storeroom and exiting with the articles.
The victim then made contact with the defendant who admitted to stealing the articles. The defendant then carried the victim to the persons to whom he sold the articles.
The matter was then reported to the police and following an investigation, he was arrested and charged for the offence.
Prosecutor Timmerman strongly objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds that he was previously charged and has not been attending court. When asked by the Magistrate why he wasn’t attending court, the defendant stated,” After the first time when the matter was called I went away to Suriname.”
On those grounds, the Magistrate remanded him to prison until December 9.
