A 21-year-old man, who is accused of trafficking a quantity of marijuana and cocaine, was today charged and released on bail for the offences.
Kevin Abrams, of 130 Duncan Street, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
Abrams pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on November 25, at St Ignatius, Central Rupununi, he had in his possession 46.1 grams of marijuana and 3.4 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that on the day in question, around 00:30 hrs ranks from Lethem were on patrol duty when they made contact with the defendant. A search was then carried out on his possession and a quantity of leaves and stems and a whitish substance were found in his pants pocket.
He was then told of the offence and taken into custody.
While the prosecutor did not object to bail being granted to the defendant, he asked that conditions be applied.
The magistrate, after listening to the facts, released Abrams on $60,000 bail.
Condition of the bail is that he report every Friday at the Lethem Police Station until the hearing and determination of the trial. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on December 30, 2019, at the Lethem Magistrates’ Court.
