Three months after a businessman was sentenced to 3.5 years for trafficking cocaine, he was moments ago given an additional one year sentence after pleading guilty to trafficking another 6.6 grams of cocaine.
Fifty-seven-year-old Aundre Singh, a businessman, of Lot 779 Section B, Block X, Diamond Housing Scheme, was on trial in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
However, this afternoon when the matter was called before Magistrate Rondel Weever, the defendant opted to change his not guilty plea to guilty.
Hence, the Magistrate sentenced him to one year behind bars for the offence.
Last August, Singh and sixty-year-old Clifford Gouveia, a taxi driver, of Lot 14 Little Abary, East Coast Demerara, were sentenced by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus after they were found guilty at the conclusion of the trial.
The men had denied the charge which stated that on October 3, 2018, at the Rupert Craig Highway, in the vicinity of the Kitty seawall, between Pere Street and Queen Street, they had 5.582 kilograms of cocaine in their possession for the purpose of trafficking. They were also fined $11.7 M.
