Teens and tweens have turned out in large numbers to participate in the ICT Code Camps that have been organized by the Ministry of Public Telecommunications. Classes commenced last week at the University of Guyana’s Tain campus in Berbice, and at the Technical Institutes in Essequibo and Linden.
In the morning sessions, UG lecturers and students teach Coding and Programming to 9, 10 and 11-year-olds, and the afternoons, Mondays to Fridays, cater for teenagers up to 15 years old.
Ministerial Advisor, Lance Hinds who heads up the Ministry’s Industry and Innovation Department (IID), said that the organizers have been overwhelmed by the response from residents in the regions. All classes are free, they are full, and they will run for six weeks up to the end of August.
The students are learning to write Code, as well as the introductory steps to Computer Programming. Coding is the introduction to writing and creating websites, ICT applications (apps), designing video games, and more.
