“He attitude towards me mek I thief his laptop. Yuh win some yuh lose some but I can live with that. Darrell owed me money and he started treating me like a nobody so I went in his house and take the laptop,” were the words of a man who pleaded guilty to a larceny from dwelling house charge.
Thirty-four-year-old Levi Williams of Norton Street, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The first charge alleged that on December 7, 2019 at Cornhill Street, Georgetown, Williams stole $15,000 from the person of Murdock Davis. It was also alleged that on December 6, 2019 at Georgetown, he entered the dwelling home of Darrell Romeo and stole one laptop and a laptop bag.
A vocal Williams pleaded guilty with explanation to both charges after they were read to him.
In an explanation to the court he stated,” I was working at Darrell house for some time and he owed me $80,000. The day he left to go out and he forgot the door open so I went inside and remove the laptop. I pawned the laptop by my friend at Stabroek Market. I told the guy not to open the laptop because Darrell is my personal friend.”
Williams went on to tell the court that a few days after pawning the laptop, he returned and collected the laptop which was returned to Darrell.
He added,” Darrell got back his laptop and he still want me to get charge so I seh fine do what yuh have to do.”
In relation to the larceny from person charge, Williams told the court that the victim owed him some money for a phone so he decided to “snatch the money out his hand.”
Before sentencing, the magistrate asked Williams if he was ever charged before and he stated.” I done serve two riots in prison. Thank God for life. Prison is nah no nice place, jail time is waste time.”
When asked by the magistrate if he has any medical condition, he stated.” I does trouble from high blood pressure and I need to get a large amount of fresh air.”
The magistrate then sentenced him to 18 months for the charge of larceny from dwelling house and eight months for larceny from person. However, the sentences will run concurrently so Williams will only be spending 18 months behind bars.
