A man who is no stranger to the courts and was recently freed on a murder charge, was today once again back before the courts for assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.
Thirty-two-year-old Edward Skeete called “ Pretty Boy”, a shop owner of 309 Independence Boulevard, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he was slapped with two charges.
The first charge stated that on February 10,2020 at Cornhill Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Police Constable 23172 Morris, a peace officer who was acting in the execution of his duties.
It was further alleged that on the same day and at the same location, he resisted arrest from Police Constable 23172 Morris, a peace officer who was acting in the execution of his duties to prevent lawful apprehension.
Skeete pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him.
His lawyer George Thomas, in a successful bail application, told the court that his client is a father of two and the sole breadwinner for his family.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris made no objections to bail being granted to the defendant, hence the Magistrate released him on $20,000 bail. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on March 4,2020.
In 2018, Skeete and another person were freed of a murder charge by Justice Navindra Singh after insufficient evidence was provided by the State for the 2015 death of Ryan Clementson who was gunned down near the Turning Point establishment at Tucville, Georgetown.
It was reported that on the day in question, Fenderson was in a bus on Lombard Street when a gun-toting Skeete approached the vehicle in the company of others. The victim was shot to the leg and relieved of a sum of cash.
The perpetrators then made good their escape.
