An elector turned up this morning at a polling station at Crane, West Coast Demerara, and was told by staff that she had already voted. This is according to Chief Elections Officer, Keith Lowenfield, who during a press briefing at 10:00hrs, said that officials were called in to investigate the matter.
It turned out that the elector had not voted and was therefore allowed to exercise her franchise, Lowenfield added. He said that he also received reports of a similar case at a polling station in North Ruimveldt, Georgetown. GECOM staff are currently working to have the matter resolved. GECOM is expected to provide another update on elections at 18:00hrs, when polls close.
