Police ranks in Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara (WBD) are trying to resolve a situation where allegations have been made that a People’s Progressive Party (PPP) supporter attempted to vote with a fake identification card (ID).
A police source who is on the ground said that a PPP/C supporter carried an individual to the polling station and tried to assist him in finding his name on the list. However, an intoxicated person saw this and reportedly raised an alarm.
“The man was drunk and when he see the PPP man with the other man ID card going through the list he raised an alarm and claimed that the man (PPP supporter) voting with a fake ID card,” the police source said.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the intoxicated person then went into the village and informed villagers who then turned up at the polling station and began pelting at persons.
Divisional Commander, Simon McBean when contacted said that his ranks were unable to verify claims that someone tried to vote with a fake ID card. He said that someone was taken to the police station after he tried to assist persons to vote.
Similar claims have been made at a polling station in Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
However, it has been confirmed that PPP/C supporters have been assisting elderly persons in some villages finding their polling station and transporting them to vote.
