An intelligence -led operation by ranks of the Guyana Police Force yesterday resulted in the apprehension of five men on-board a wooden vessel with a large quantity of processed cannabis.
According to the force, about 15:00hr yesterday, the ranks who were conducting a marine patrol in the Berbice River, intercepted the boat which was powered by a 75 HP Mercury engine in the vicinity of Plegt Anker Village.
A search of the vessel revealed 124 taped parcels of suspected cannabis, which when weighed, amounted to one 166 kilograms.
The suspects who are residents of New Amsterdam ; No2 Village, East Canje; Fort Nassau, Berbice River and Fort Ordnance Housing Scheme, East Canje respectively, are expected to be arraigned before a magistrate tomorrow charged with Possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
