The Public Health Ministry is considering the provision of housing to healthcare workers dealing with critical cases of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), as a measure to prevent any possibility of infected workers passing on the virus to their family members at home.
Making this announcement, today, was the Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO). Dr Karen Boyle, who said to healthcare workers during the COVID-19 update today: “the ministry is looking at provisions for housing for health workers dealing with critical persons, so as to reduce the risk of infecting their family members.”
Further, Dr Boyle noted that the Ministry is working to ensure that a stock of Personal protective equipment (PPEs)reaches all health facilities.
This comes weeks after reports of nurses complaining about the lack of PPEs as the COVID-19 cases began to increase.
Guyana has recorded 23 cases thus far, with four deaths.
The Pan-American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO) had previously projected that Guyana will see some 1,400 cases. However, that number has since been revised to 20,000.
