An argument between an employee and employer over the payment of salary has resulted in the death of the latter this morning at Haswell, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Mahendra Mangru, a land surveyor of Haswell, Port Mourant.
The 56-year-old suspect has since been arrested.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the suspect did some work for the land surveyor sometime ago and he (deceased) refused to pay.
After several failed attempts to collect his salary, the suspect went this morning to the deceased’s home and an argument ensued over the payment. During the argument, the suspect threatened to report the land surveyor to the Housing Ministry and the police.
This reportedly upset the victim, causing him to arm himself with a cutlass and attack the 56-year-old.
According to information received, the two men wrestled over the cutlass and both sustained injuries. Mangru sustained most of the injuries and died while receiving treatment at the Port Mourant hospital.
The suspect was arrested and has since claimed that Mangru died as a result of self defense.
