Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence has outright refuted claims by some serving in administrative positions in the Health Sector, that some Regions have not received any support from government in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
Lawrence said these statements are not true. “This is a blatant untruth,” the Health Minister expressed via a statement issued last evening on her official Facebook page.
She said, “It is disheartening that there are some serving in administrative positions in the Health Sector, would on numerous occasions publicly state that they received no support from the Government in the national fight against the spread of COVID-19.”
According to Minister Lawrence, in keeping with its mandate of effective delivery of quality health care throughout the length and breadth of Guyana, the Health Ministry has given every Region medical supplies and equipment to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Region 10, the Minister added, is of no exception. Furthermore, she said as recent as Saturday, supplies were delivered to the Regional Health Administration.
She added that the Ministry of Public Health is committed to supporting Administrators and Health Care Workers in their critical efforts of protecting the Guyanese public against the deadly disease.
Lawrence sought to remind that during this time, the leadership of our country will be tested, irrespective of one’s personal views and postures the protection, advancement and development of the people should be your major concern.
She, therefore said, the Ministry of Public Health takes this opportunity to remind the public to adhere to the safety protocols that have been issued since the beginning of this pandemic.
