The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has recorded 58 murders at of the end of July, 31, 2018 with disorderly murders topping the list at 25.
This figure represents a 17 percent decrease in all murders for the year so far as compared to the same period last year.
According to a statement from the force, there were 16 domestic murders and 11 cases where persons lost their lives as a result of robberies. Six unknown murders were also recorded.
Additionally, 76 illegal firearms have been taken off the streets for the year thus far—compared to 81 for the same period last year. These include 44 pistols; 18 revolvers; eight shotguns; one sub-machine and five rifles.
As it relates to fatal accidents in the country, 57 persons lost their lives on the roadway with pedestrians topping the list at 22.
