When one considers the most recent declaration by former Prime Minister for Jamaica, Bruce Golding, to the effect that there were transparent and courageous efforts to inflate the elections results in favour of the APNU+AFC, the next move should be a criminal investigation to capture those who were part of the plot to conduct electoral fraud. This was recently noted by Attorney-at-Law and Candidate for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Charles Ramson Jnr.
During an exclusive interview with Guyana Standard, Ramson recalled that Golding would have noted in his report to the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), that in 20 of the 81 boxes which had been recounted for Region Four on Tuesday, it was found that the votes for APNU were decreased by 1536 and the votes were increased by 177 votes for the PPP.
Ramson contended that this is more than enough evidence of electoral fraud while noting that such a crime has to be prosecuted. In fact, the PPP Candidate said that prior to the Golding report; similar observations were made and put into the public domain. He said therefore that a criminal investigation should have been initiated weeks ago. “But instead of this, what we have is a blatant pretense, as though fraud is not taking place,” the young politician added.
Turning his attention to the remarks made by Golding to the OAS, Ramson said they constitute the most damning of all statements to be made by international election observers to Guyana’s elections. He said, too, that Golding’s preliminary report which speaks to the alarming, manipulative tactics employed by APNU+AFC agents is not in isolation. The PPP Candidate noted that the Ambassadors representing the USA, Britain and Canada have also made statements to the effect that there is credible evidence of electoral fraud.
The politician noted that the findings of the foregoing officials are also in keeping with the observations that have been made by the PPP since the controversy over the tabulation of the Region Four votes.
