Guyana has confirmed no new case of the COVID-19 virus in four consecutive days. According to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO), Dr Karen Gordon-Boyle, today, the number of confirmed cases remains at 153, inclusive of 12 deaths and 77 recoveries. This brings the total of active cases to 64.
To date, the total number of persons tested is 1, 719 with the 1,566 negative cases being recorded.
There are three patients in the COVID Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 25 persons in institutional quarantine.
Globally, there are 6, 287,771 cases with 379, 941 deaths.
In the Region of the Americas, the total number of cases is 2,949,455 with 165,311 deaths.
The DCMO is appealing to residents of Regions One (Barima/Waini); Six (East Berbice/Corentyne); Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni); Eight (Potaro/Siparuni); and Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) to remain on high alert as Brazil and Suriname report new cases.
The official said that in the last 24 hours, Brazil recorded 11, 598 cases and 623 deaths.
“So, your adherence to health guidelines is imperative. Also, Suriname has recorded 26 new cases in the last 24 hours. Once again, the MoPH is encouraging residents to take extra precautions to protect themselves against COVID-19,” the DCMO advised.
