The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) is calling on all political parties involved in the electoral process to respect the outcome of the recount of votes cast in the March elections.

The Chamber is also urging political parties to “uphold the rule of law and democratic pillars and principles upon which
our nation rests”.

“It is noteworthy to mention that any attempt to thwart or subvert the will of the people or the process through which that will emanates spells dire consequences for our nation.
Out of the recount process, there can only be one winner – a winner elected by the people of Guyana,” the Chamber noted.

The private sector organisation is also urging the next government to “govern for all of the people of Guyana.

“The GCCI remains supportive of any government brought to power by the democratic process and, will continue to act as a partner in nation-building as we all seek to develop this nation of ours.”

The GCCI is an accredited observer of these elections, for which it has fielded observers throughout the
process.

Yesterday, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) completed the counting of the 2,339 boxes that contain ballots cast in the elections.

The elections body will continue the tabulation of several Statements of Recount (SORs) today, which will see the conclusion of this phase of the operation.
