Noting that the results of the March 02, 2020 General and Regional elections will be delivered in the coming weeks, the U.S. Embassy in Guyana has urged American citizens to take certain precautions.
In a Security Alert, the Embassy said that Guyana will likely have an increased police presence before and after the announcement of the elections results.
It cautioned that it is possible that large crowds could gather at government venues. According to the Embassy, U.S. government personnel have been advised to take precautions to prepare for any unexpected disruptions to their normal routine.
As a result, the Embassy advises all U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, as even peaceful demonstrations may quickly turn violent.
It has also asked them to monitor local radio or television reports for up to date information and to exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
The Embassy has several systems in place should citizens need assistance. They can be retrieved via its website: https://gy.usembassy.gov/security-alert-election-related-announcements/
