A man who is accused of placing a knife to a 23-year-old woman’s throat and raping her was yesterday charged and released on bail for the offense.
Twenty-seven-year-old Grafton Clarke, a labourer, of Kildonan Village, East Berbice Corentyne, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
Clarke was not required to plead to the charge which stated that on June 4, 2020, at Bush Lot foreshore, he engaged in sexual penetration with the woman without her consent.
He was released on $100,000 bail and instructed to make his next court appearance on June 29, 2020.
According to reports, on the day in question, the accused asked the woman to accompany him to the Bush Lot foreshore. It was there that he held her at knifepoint and raped her. The matter was then reported to the station and following an investigation, he was arrested and charged.
