Two days ago, Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ms. Mia Mottley, expressed her disappointment over the latest report of Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield which gives the APNU+AFC the lead in the 2020 polls. But since making those statements, there has been an obscene assault on her character by agents of the coalition. Upon taking note of same, Ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda to the United States and the Organization of American States, Sir Ronald Sanders said that the coalition’s posture is not only loathsome and unacceptable but also unjust.
By making her statements on the report which invalidated over 100,000 votes, the Ambassador in his recent writings categorically stated that Mottley was only carrying out her duty to member states of CARICOM and to the Charter of Civil Society of which Guyana is a signatory.
He noted as well that the sadness expressed by Mottley was over events in Guyana that have delayed the results. Sir Ronald stressed that nothing Prime Minister Mottley said was untrue. He said it is therefore distressing that agents of the APNU+AFC faction have the temerity to state or suggest that her comments are designed to exert undue pressure on the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ). That court is currently considering submissions by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), and others, over a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal. For one to impute to Prime Minister Mottley such a disreputable motive, Sir Ronald said it is not only unacceptable but also unjust.
