Almost two weeks after a man was killed during a fight over Guinness, a security guard was today charged with manslaughter.
Twenty-nine-year-old, Seon Rajopaul of Pope Street, New Amsterdam this morning appeared before Magistrate, Peter Hugh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
The charge was read to Rajopaul via Zoom. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on July 3, at Patrick Dam Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, he unlawfully killed 23-year-old Nickosie Vankenie known as ‘Scary.’
He was granted bail in the sum of $300,000, and is expected to make his next court appearance on July 28.
According to reports, on the day in question, Vankenie and his friends were at a shop from where he purchased a Guinness and “rest it down.”
However, when Vankenie returned, he observed that someone had removed the Guinness; Rajopaul admitted to doing so. An argument ensued between the men which quickly led to a scuffle, during which Vankenie was stabbed.
Rajopaul then made good his escape and the injured man was rushed to the
New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on June 5.
The matter was reported and following an investigation, Rajopaul was later apprehended by the police.
