A porter is now dead while his colleague is seriously injured following an accident at Arawai Trail along the Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni – Mazaruni).
Dead is 25-year-old Mahendra Verria of Leonora, West Bank Demerara (WBD), while his colleague, 25-year-old Sunny Moore of Cornelia Ida, WBD, is a patient under observation.
Based on information received, at around 10:30 hrs yesterday, a tractor towing a motor lorry which was being steered by another driver was proceeding north along the Arawai Trail. In the process of descending a hill, the tractor driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to topple.
The driver – a 22-year-old man, along with the two porters -Verria and Moore – jumped from the vehicle onto the trail where they were injured.
Public-spirited persons immediately went to their aid and rushed them to the Bartica Regional Hospital where Moore was admitted at the Accident and Emergency Ward but Verria, who had suffered severe head injuries, was air dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday at around 15:00 hrs.
C.B Construction Inc owns the vehicles. Both drivers are in police custody.
