Newly appointed Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney General, Anil Nandlall claims that he could not gain access to his office for two days. He alleged that he was “locked out”.
Nandlall told the Guyana Standard after the swearing in of 19 Ministers at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) this afternoon, that the Commissioner of Police had to intervene in the matter.
“I was locked out of the office – not the building – but the office for two days. I had to get the Police Commissioner involved…Even when the Police Commissioner intervened and recovered the keys from wherever it was – I’m not sure, the keys could not open the door. I had to bring carpenters to break the door down, but fortunately the keys came – I don’t know where it came from,” he said.
The Minister noted that this morning was the first time he managed to gain access to the office.
Nandlall, back in 2015 when the PPP/C lost the elections, formally handed over the office to Basil Williams, his successor. This time, however, Williams did not formally hand over the office to Nandlall.
The newly appointed minister said that he saw “a lot of files around”, and that he is still acquainting himself.
He was appointed the Minister and Attorney General on the same day Irfaan Ali was sworn in as the ninth Executive President of Guyana.
