A 52-year-old woman was early this morning brutally hacked to death at her Lot 9 Good Hope, Ruby, East Bank Essequibo home.
Dead is Waheeda Shanshudeen. The incident occurred around 04:30hrs.
Guyana Standard understands that the woman lives with her son-in-law, who is a popular newspaper vendor in Georgetown.
According to reports, after the woman’s son-in-law left early this morning to go to work, someone broke into the house, struck the woman with a plank of wood then slit her throat before placing a bag over her head.
Another son-in-law told investigators that he was slated to pick up the victim to carry her to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to see her son who was chopped a few days ago during an argument with a villager .
He added that he sent his minibus conductor to collect the woman and that is when the gruesome discovery was made. Further, the son-in-law told investigators that the woman’s house was ransacked and cash and other valuables are missing.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
