A ganja trafficker begged the court not to send him back to prison after he was found guilty of trafficking 117 lbs of marijuana.
Eduardo Moore of 270 Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, was on trial before Magistrate Zamella Ally-Seepaul at the Lenora Magistrates’ Court.
At the conclusion of the trial, the Magistrate found sufficient evidence against Moore and handed down the custodial sentence of three years along with a fine of $41,224,560.
On April 15, 2019, at Anna Cathrina Public Road, West Coast Demerara, he trafficked 52.852 kilograms of marijuana. Moore, in his plea of mitigation, stated, “Do not send me back to prison. Prison is a really bad place, and it’s not for me. I don’t want to go back there because I could serve society better outside of prison than inside.”
Facts in the matter presented by Custom Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Narissa Leander stated that on the day in question, CANU ranks acting on information intercepted motorcar PVV 9817 at Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara. A search was conducted, and two suitcases containing several transparently wrapped parcels containing marijuana were found.
Moore was told of the offence and charged. After spending months on remand, he was eventually granted bail pending the outcome of the trial.
