Four Cuban nationals who were busted in Region Six while entering Guyana illegally have been charged and ordered to be deported.
Those charged are Amouri Roden Roboina, Yuriesqui Pena Lledis, Yonisleydis Cedeno Blanco, and Erneydys Rodriguez Gomez.
They pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on August 5, 2020, at Springlands, they entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.
They appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore in the Springlands Magistrates’ Court.
Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, the defendants were in a route 40 minibus heading to Georgetown when ranks stopped the bus at the Berbice River Bridge.
The court heard that while at the Berbice River Bridge, the defendants were asked to produce their travel documents, and it was discovered that no entry stamps were in their passports.
They were all escorted to a quarantine facility in Region Six, where they underwent COVID-10 testing. After being tested, they were handed over to the immigration department, and charges were instituted against them.
After listening to the facts, the Magistrate fined the Cubans $20,000 each or in default three weeks in prison.
