A 24-year-old woman lost her life yesterday morning when her reputed husband, a security guard attached to the Guyana Oil Company Limited (GuyOil), plunged a knife into her neck.
Shanece Lawrence of Lot 272 Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown, died on the spot. The tragedy happened around 11:30 hrs at the aforementioned address which the couple shared.
The suspect, 34-year-old Jermaine Bristol, turned himself into the authorities at the East La Penitence Police Station after taking the life of his lover who worked at Hicksville Hotel.
According to information received, the couple had an argument last Thursday, after which, the victim moved out of the home. A police source said that the argument stemmed from reports that the woman was seeing another man.
On Sunday however, the couple reconciled and the woman returned to her reputed husband’s abode.
The victim’s mother, Nicole Lawrence, told the Guyana Standard today that her daughter had made several complaints about Bristol being abusive.
She said, “My baby had moved out like three or four times from him because whenever she was there, they were always arguing. Like he used to be vex that she used to be on WhatsApp after midnight. And he would beat her for it. I told her that he can’t be no good man but I don’t know. She always used to forgive him. The other day she found a good guy and I told her move on with that man. But then he (Bristol) found out and beat her for that too. He convinced her that he is the only man for her and she move back with him.”
Reports are that this morning, both the suspect and the victim were looking for each other. The suspect eventually caught up with the victim at their home and attacked her.
Investigations are ongoing.
