Controversial former SWAT boss, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Motie Dookie is gone!
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) early today (May 24, 2018) said the DSP was instructed to proceed on special leave two days ago. In a statement, the force said that the decision was made in the interest of the public.
It is no doubt that the GPF has been facing backlashes since reinstating Dookie—who was caught smuggling whiskey in 2017—and making him third in command at the Police’s A Division.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that many ranks had been protesting against the decision to reinstate Dookie especially after departmental charges were recommended for him.
Ranks said that Dookie was being promoted instead of demoted.
As a result, letters were written to the Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan, calling for the DSP’s removal.
“Here you have a man, who was caught smuggling whiskey—he gave many versions of his involvement—but only departmental charges were recommended…That was not really a problem but when you go and bring a corrupt man to direct junior ranks then you looking for serious trouble,” a senior rank in ‘A’ division said.
On December 30, 2017 Dookie was travelling in a minibus with the driver when the vehicle was stopped at a roadblock at Whim, Corentyne.
Before a search was carried out on the minibus, Dookie reportedly identified himself to ranks and informed them that he had one case of Johnny Walker whiskey in the vehicle. He claimed that he was taking the whiskey for an Old Year’s Night party in the city.
However, the head of the police patrol opted to search the vehicle and found more than the solitary case Dookie declared.
The former SWAT Commander and the driver were immediately placed under arrest. During the investigation, Dookie allegedly told ranks that knew nothing of the alcohol and had only begged the driver for a drop—after he initially claimed he only had one case of the whiskey in the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle subsequently admitted ownership of the alcohol and departmental charges were recommended for Dookie.
