Customs Law Enforcement Officers were on patrol duty at #79 Village Foreshore, Corriverton, Berbice Sunday night, when they noticed a speed boat with five passengers arrive at Eno boat landing.
The officers intercepted the vessel and conducted a search on the passengers and their belongings.
One of the passengers, a 26-year-old man from Lot Zuelen, Paramaribo, was found with a beretta sub machine gun with the number defaced.
Police also found 25 live 9mm ammunition, US$3,000 and
SRD$6,250.
The suspect was arrested and taken into Police custody at Springlands Police Station.
The firearm and ammunition were tagged and lodged.
The suspect is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.
