A truck driver was today charged and released on $300,000 after being charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Twenty-two-year-old Eric Kennedy of 153 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Kennedy pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on May 25,2020 at Saffon Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, he drove a motor truck in a dangerous manner, thereby causing the death of Terry Dhanraj.
Kennedy who was represented by Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva was granted 300,000 bail. His matter was adjourned to October 7, 2020 for disclosure.
According to information, Dhanraj, a 23-year-old wash bay owner of Ogle Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara was in a motorcar which collided with a bridge at Saffon Street and then into the trailer of a truck. At the time of the accident, the car was heading North on Saffon Street.
The trailer was at the time turning onto Saffon Street when the accident occurred. Dhanraj sustained head and chest injuries and died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
