Chairperson of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Volda Lawrence, embattled Region Four Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo, and APNU+AFC activist from Region Five, Carol Joseph were today slapped with several charges in relation to electoral fraud.
The trio appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. They were all charged with forgery and conspiracy to defraud.
The trio, being represented by Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes was all granted bail. They are expected to make their next court appearance on October 28.
Last week, the women were asked to visit the police where they were questioned about their involvement in the 2020 General and Regional Election.
Lawrence, on October 14, last was slapped with two charges of conspiracy to defraud the nation.
This is in relation to the ongoing police probe into allegations of electoral fraud. She is out on $100,000 bail.
Meanwhile, Mingo is already facing four counts of misconduct in public office. He is out on $600,000 bail.
According to the particulars of the charge, Mingo, along with others, on or about March 5, 2020, at the Command Centre for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on High and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown, uttered to the Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield, the results for Region Four, knowing it to be forged, with intent to defraud the people of Guyana.
