Police say they are investigating a suicide committed by a 15-year-old boy from Triumph, East Coast Demerara (ECD), which occurred today around 14:45hrs.
According to police, the boy’s father left for work around 6:30hrs, leaving his licensed firearm, a pistol with several matching rounds on top of a built-in closet. His wife left shortly after for work, leaving the children in the care of the babysitter.
One of the sisters told the police that she was inside her room when her brother gave her a book page with writing and went back into his bedroom. As a result, she followed him and saw when he went into his haversack, took out a firearm, closed his bedroom door and shortly after, she heard a gunshot.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police who visited the scene, processed same and confirmed that the body exhibited a wound consistent with that of a gunshot.
The body was examined by a Doctor who visited the home and pronounced him dead. The body was escorted to the Lyken funeral home and awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
