Earlier today, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) announced that a reward in the sum of G$3M is being offered to any person or persons who can provide information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of Henry Boys’ murder.
The police statement further noted that investigators are diligently exploring every possible lead to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.
But the Attorney-at-law, Nigel Hughes, who is representing the interest of the Henry family, says the reward is a signal that the force has failed.
“I think that the fact that they are offering a reward is an admission of failure and an admission that they are unable to solve the crime with their present means and, therefore, they are hoping that by a financial incentive that somebody will come forward, he said during a press conference today.
He added that the introduction of a reward can lead to other complications. The attorney-at-law explained that persons will be more interested in the money and this can result in the fabrication of evidence, among other things.
It is now more than eight weeks since the remains of 19-year-old, Joel and that of his cousin, Isaiah, 16, were discovered aback Cotton Tree Village.
The GPF is calling on persons to come forward and is assuring that all information received will be treated with the strictest of confidence.
