At his press conference hosted this morning, President David Granger said that he had hoped to see the economy grow at a faster rate but the country’s limitations in areas of energy and manufacturing are to be blamed.
Granger told the media, “I would like the economy to grow at the faster rate. The growth was impeded by our lack of energy and the underdevelopment of the manufacturing sector. Fortunately, we have seen an increase in development and we have a prospect before us of cheaper energy which would become the basis of a manufacturing industry.”
President Granger exuded confidence that economic growth will accelerate in the near future.
He said that there are a few initiatives in the pipeline that can secure the desired growth. “We need to invite foreign investors and provide opportunities for young people to go into various fields.”
The President said that agro-processing and micro-financing will also be encouraged.
“So all around, we can do better. There have been attempts to ensure that the economy is boosted and I am satisfied that the Minister of Business (Dominic Gaskin) and Minister of Finance (Winston Jordan) have been doing this.”
