Police in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) have arrested four men after a search conducted on their vehicle unearthed two unlicensed firearms along with magazine and matching rounds.
The discovery was made around 00:15h during an intelligence-led operation commanded by a Detective Inspector and a police party.
According to reports, the ranks intercepted a motor vehicle at Queen and William Streets Kitty, in the presence of four males.
Police said that when they arrived at the location, a 25-year-old security guard of Thomas Street, North Cummingsburg, who claimed to be the driver, was sitting in the vehicle’s truck.
He was accompanied by a 23-year-old clothes vendor of Back Street, Better Hope, E.C.D, a 32-year-old businessman of Queens Street, Kitty, and a 22-year-old male who resides at Diamond, E.B.D, were standing near the vehicle.
A search was then carried out on the motorcar, which unearthed two.32 Taurus Pistols, with the serial numbers removed, along with 43 live .32 rounds of ammunition and an extra magazine.
Police said that the quartet was arrested and placed into custody at the Kitty Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.
