A canecutter, who stabbed the mother of his three children to death, was today arraigned for the crime.
33-year-old Tejram Rahim of Lot 7 Rosignol, West Bank Berbice (WBB), appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh in the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
It is alleged that on November 13, 2020, at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice, he murdered 28-year-old Amrita Rahim, also known as “Sally.” Tejram was remanded to prison until December 29, 2020.
Guyana Standard had reported that the woman’s eldest child told investigators that they went to his aunt’s birthday party, where his mother and father were consuming alcohol.
The child said that at about 23:45 hrs, they left for home where he heard his father accusing his mother of going out with another man the previous day.
He added that his mother threatened to leave the house, which resulted in an argument.
Nevertheless, the argument ended, and Amrita went to bed. But her husband went into the kitchen and returned with a knife and stabbed the mother of three and then proceeded outside.
The child then raised an alarm, and other relatives who lived in the yard came to the woman’s rescue.
Amrita was placed in a taxi and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body was later taken to the Bailey Funeral Home for Post-Mortem Examination (PME).
This publication understands that the two have been experiencing domestic issues for some time now.
